November Star Award
Linda Cotton
UW Oshkosh university services associate Linda Cotton was stunned Tuesday when she looked up from her desk to see her friends and colleagues, including Chancellor Richard Wells, assembled in front of her.
“I was afraid I had double-booked the Pollock Alumni House,” Cotton said. “But then the wheels started turning and I realized why they were there.”
Wells and other University staff members had gathered to honor Cotton as the Star Award winner for November 2007.
“I had wobbly legs and tears in my eyes,” Cotton said. “I was totally shocked.”
Cotton began working at UW Oshkosh long before the first Star Award was given in 2001. Cotton started in the Multicultural Education Center and moved to the Pollock Alumni House eight years later. Since then she has logged more than 20 years with Alumni Relations.
“I remember in the earlier years. I wasn’t busy constantly. Now it seems like there is no time when there’s a lull or a lack of things to do,” she said.
The Star Award winner said she is more content being busy than bored and she takes great pride in her work.
“Linda Cotton has always gone above and beyond her job expectations throughout the nine years I have known her,” said Christine Gantner, director of alumni relations for UW Oshkosh. “She is one of the most detail-oriented and conscientious individuals I have ever met.”
The Star Award includes a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for a month and a gift from University Books and More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to classified employees who have worked at least six months at UW-Oshkosh.
