April Star Award
Nancy Bogenhagen
After seven years of grading student exams, test scoring coordinator Nancy Bogenhagen has received some high marks of her own.
Bogenhagen received the Star Award for the month of April.
“I was very surprised and grateful for the nomination by Marcus (Buker) ,” Bogenhagen said. “It was very thoughtful on his part.”
Buker, geography adjunct professor and lecturer, nominated Bogenhagen because of her efficiency and attention to detail. Bogenhagen, he said, improves his reputation among students because she helps him return quizzes and exams promptly. And she always strives for accuracy.
“I gave an online quiz instead of a scanned-answer quiz one week,” Buker said. “When I turned in the next batch the following week, she noticed immediately that I was missing a quiz and called to double-check to make sure something wasn’t amiss.”
As part of the testing services staff, Bogenhagen also is responsible for grading the influx of final exams.
“My biggest challenge is finals week,” Bogenhagen said. “We have a 24-hour turnaround time, and it’s challenging trying to get everything scored in that week.”
Bogenhagen acknowledges the work of other testing services employees.
“I am so fortunate to have the student workers, co-worker and boss that I do,” Bogenhagen said. “He’s very flexible, and my co-workers are very helpful.”
The Star Award includes a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for a month and a gift from University Books and More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to employees who have worked at least six months at UW-Oshkosh.
