September Star Award Recipient
Zelke Wins August Star AwardStepping in when help is needed the most is what it takes to be a Star Award winner, and its a big reason why academic department associate Jeri Zelke is Augusts Star Award recipient. After eight years with the English department and womens studies, Zelke took on responsibility for managing the art department office. That includes scheduling, purchasing and managing the student and limited-term-employee payrollabout 30 work-study students and student assistants each semesterand a wealth of other day-to-day responsibilities. I wanted to acknowledge the above-and-beyond work that Jeri has done for our department, its students and faculty, said Gail Panske, art department chair. With the Arts and Communications Center under major renovation, Zelke will manage her day-to-day operations this fall as faculty and staff find their way back to their offices, retrieve all of their possessions packed in boxes, locate their desks, filing cabinets and chairs, restock their bookshelves and completely set up their classrooms from scratch. Chancellor Richard H. Wells walked in with a group of university staff members to present the Star Award. It caught my attention rather quickly! Zelke said. I was totally taken by surprise. I would like to thank all of the members of the art department and Gail Panske for this award. The Star Award recognizes performance above and beyond expectations. It includes a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for a month and a gift from University Books and More. The award is presented each month to employees who have worked at least six months at UW-Oshkosh.
