May STAR Award Recipient

Annette Murphy honored for service

Annette Murphy (Science Outreach) has been awarded the College of Letters and Science 2006 Service Recognition Award, for her service contributions beyond expectations. On May 13, Murphy will receive her bachelor of liberal studies degree, with an organizational administration emphasis. Murphy, a university services associate for UW System Women and Science and UW-Oshkosh Science Outreach, was nominated by the coordinator of both programs, Susannah Sandrin. Murphy has been in Science Outreach since 1988.

Sandrin said Murphy is someone who takes initiative and strives to keep the office running efficiently and pleasantly.

Murphy took two marketing courses in order “to develop more effective marketing techniques” for Science Outreach programs, and convened a meeting with other staff members to share her ideas, Sandrin said. “This helped create a unified campaign for the diversity of programs,” Sandrin said. “Her extra efforts have helped us to better identify our target audience.”
Murphy said she’s grateful for her experiences at UW-Oshkosh. “I am continually thankful to be part of the classified staff and the University as a whole, and to have worked with so many dedicated peoplefrom our awesome student assistants, other classified staff and co-workers to the many faculty members that our office would be lost without,” she said. “I couldn't ask for a better place to hang my coat each day!”
