Some UW-Oshkosh employees have been stars since the day they started.
Academic Advising Director Lynn Freeman says that about April's Star Award recipient, Robin Barrett, a University Services associate in academic advising. Barret started there in 2002. Her responsibilities include working with advisers in academic advising to create a hiring, training and evaluation program for the student Peer Advising Liaison (PAL) program. The program includes recruitment, a paper application/recommendation process, group and individual interviews and several days of training and mid-year performance evaluations. In addition, she runs the office, manages the budget, supervises 18 student employees and assists 18 professional staff.
"I see Robin go above and beyond every day," said Liz Whalley, associate director of the undergraduate advising resource center. "She's patient with students and shows genuine concern for their education and general well-being." Barrett loves doing the work.
"Everybody has a dream at UW-Oshkosh," she said. "I like that. I like the freedom students have for course selection and the friendliness of the staff."
The Star Award recognizes performance above and beyond expectations. It includes a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for a month and a gift from University Books and More.
"I was ecstatic about winning the award," Barrett said. "I did a victory dance."
The award is presented monthly to classified employees who have worked at least six months at UW-Oshkosh.
