February STAR Award Recipient

Garza always a professional despite a heavy workload and frequent, tight deadlines, Brenda Garza is always a professional.  That’s why Garza, university services associate for the College of Nursing (CON) undergraduate program, is February’s Star Award recipient.  The traditional undergraduate program remains the largest of all CON options, including both the collaborative nursing program and the accelerated nursing program.  “There are endless phone and e-mail inquiries that come to Brenda,” said CON Dean Rosemary Smith. “There is no question that she has a large scope and depth of responsibility in her job. She expertly handles the multitasking essential to her role.”

Along with other duties, Garza organizes applications for the traditional nursing program, issues the call for scholarships and organizes and reviews all applications. She also works closely with all undergraduate faculty members on a variety of student academic concerns.

Garza began her CON job in 2002.   “She came in this very complex job and ‘hit the ground running’ without missing a step,” said Stephanie Stewart, CON interim associate dean. “I am impressed by the fact that she is constantly looking for better, more efficient and more organized ways to accomplish her many tasks.”
