11 things men can do to end violence against women
- Make a personal commitment to treat women with respect.
- Be a positive role model for boys and other men.
- Reject traditional stereotypes about men that devalue emotions and "feminine" qualities.
- Speak out against sexist comments, jokes and sexual behavior.
- Take a Women's Studies course or read a book about women who have experienced violence in order to gain a better understanding of the effects of violence against women.
- Communicate your desires clearly and ask your partner to do the same.
- Do not make assumptions about what she wants based on how she is dressed or how she is acting.
- Start or participate in a discussion group about men's roles in ending violence.
- Volunteer at a rape crisis center or domestic violence shelter.
- Never pressure a woman to have sex.
