Background and Counseling Philosophy:
Nathan was a first generation college student. Before attending college he enlisted for four years active duty in the United States Air Force. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Northern Illinois University and then transitioned to a doctoral program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Nathan completed his Master’s thesis and Doctoral dissertation on the relationship between career interests and creativity. Nathan’s pre-doctoral internship took him to the Towson University Counseling Center in Maryland. After that year, he completed a post-doctoral internship at the Texas A&M University Counseling Service to further his specialization on academic and career counseling with college students. Nathan has taught several courses throughout graduate school and after including: Introductory Psychology, Personality, and Research Methods. Here at UW Oshkosh, Nathan is involved in the First Year Experience course, is Campus Coordinator for the freshman transition survey (MAP-Works), and is a residence hall liaison. Nathan takes a social-cognitive perspective in working with his clients or students. He focuses on helping people learn about themselves and their connection to their family, friends, and campus. Nathan is an active therapist and encourages clients to develop curiosity about their thoughts, beliefs, and emotions.
