Application Process

Step 1: Enter contact information into the Accelerated option database

Individuals in the database will be notified by e-mail when the application for the accelerated option (for the declared cohort) is posted on this Web site.

Step 2: Apply to the University

Apply to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh using the link below. Students applying to the Accelerated Nursing Option are designated as “transfer students"; second undergraduate degree; accelerated nursing major; term: spring for May cohort and fall for October cohort.

Please note: step 2 is an application for admission to the University; application to the Accelerated Nursing Option is completed in hard copy and mailed to the Accelerated Nursing Office. (See step 4 below).

Step 3: Complete requirements

For advising regarding prerequisite coursework, please contact the Accelerated Online BSN option advisor: Sue Clark BSN, RN at (920) 424-7215 or ona@uwosh.edu.

Official transcript evaluation of previous coursework is completed by the UW Oshkosh Admissions Office upon admission to the University.

A Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate (CNA) is one of the admission requirements.

Completion of the TEAS V is also an admission requirement.  A score that meets or exceeds the national average is required to be eligible for consideration for admission.

Step 4: Apply to the Accelerated Online Option

Application to the Accelerated option is “cohort specific.” The application is posted on this Web site approximately 8 weeks prior to the application deadline for a particular cohort. The application and all requested materials must be mailed to the Accelerated  Nursing Office, postmarked no later than the deadline designated on the application. All applications are reviewed for completeness and accuracy and then move through the admissions sequence.

Overview of Application Review Process

Applications are processed one at a time, not necessarily in the order received.  (The offer of admission to UW Oshkosh is a very important step in the application process; the College of Nursing cannot consider an applicant until he/she is admitted to the university.  All college transcripts must be submitted to the Undergraduate Admissions Office before the student can be admitted to UW Oshkosh.  Therefore, ensuring all your transcripts are requested and submitted is very helpful to the process.  If you want to know if your transcripts have been received, please contact Admissions:  920-424-3164 with your student ID number.)

An e-mail is sent the day the application is processed, informing the applicant that the application has been received and what materials, if any, are missing from the application.  (Please activate your UW Oshkosh e-mail account.)  After the initial processing of the application, the unofficial UW Oshkosh transcript is reviewed to ensure all the prerequisites are completed as necessary.  If not, the applicant will receive an e-mail or phone call to discuss any discrepancies.

Once the application is complete, another e-mail is sent to begin the interview process.  The first interview is an online interview.  The second interview is a phone interview.  The Admissions Committee begins the phone interview phase of the process with those applicants who have CNA work experience.

Given the number of applications typically received for each cohort, the entire admission process takes approximately five months to complete.  An e-mail from the Admissions Committee is sent to each applicant, all on the same day, informing the applicant of the admission decision.  For the October 2012 admission process, this e-mail will be sent no later than May 30, 2012.
