Oshkosh Student Nurse Association OSNA
OSNA@uwosh.edu

The Oshkosh Student Nurses' Association (OSNA) is a pre-professional organization for students in the nursing program at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. It is the local chapter of the Wisconsin Student Nurses' Association (WSNA).

OSNA is designed to involve student nurses of all levels (freshmen through seniors) in activities of interest to professional nurses. Students are able to become involved with activities in the community and in the University. Guest speakers are invited to meetings throughout the year. Participation in OSNA allows students to meet other nursing students from throughout the state at WSNA programs and conventions.

The initials OSNA stand for Oshkosh Student Nurses' Association. Those same letters can be used to help describe how OSNA can benefit you as a student.

O - symbolizes opportunity. Through active participation in this organization, you have the opportunity to develop professionally. Various health activities can give you valuable nursing experience. Guest speakers at meetings and professional publications can give you current nursing information. Leadership can be developed as an officer or committee volunteer.

S - symbolizes sharing interests, concerns, and friendship. While varied in age and background, individual members have similar educational interests, concerns, and goals. In sharing these with fellow members, new friendships will be formed.

N - symbolizes nurturing. As a participating member, you will experience personal and professional growth with the nurturing encouragement and moral support of your peer group and nursing faculty.

A - symbolizes achievement. You will be achieving more refined communication and technical skills and a more professional manner as you participate in OSNA clinics, workshops, and activities. You will be achieving a higher level of competence and self-confidence which will help you meet the needs of your future clients.

Using the same initials that stand for the pre-professional organization may help you remember the benefits of being a member of OSNA; opportunity, sharing, nurturing, and achievement. However, the catch is that you must be an active member to get these benefits. Don't miss the opportunity.

When you become a member of NSNA you are automaticaly a member of the WSNA.

The purpose of AAMN (American Assembly for MEN IN NURSING)  is to provide a framework for nurses as a group to meet, discuss, and influence factors which affect men as nurses.

Membership is open to any nurse – male or female – to better facilitate discussion and to meet the most important objective of AAMN – strengthening and humanizing health care.

Oshkosh is presently their own chapter within the organization.
