Nurses for Wisconsin

Four University of Wisconsin nursing programs—including UW Oshkosh College of Nursing—are offering new fellowship and loan forgiveness programs to encourage nurses to pursue doctoral degrees or post-doctoral training and assume nurse educator positions in Wisconsin.

At UW Oshkosh, three opportunities are available:

  • Nurses with a doctoral degree could qualify for up to $50,000 in loan forgiveness.
  • Nurses with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with FNP specialization can apply for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship up to $60,000 emphasizing translational scholarship and gaining skills as a nurse educator.
  • Nurses with a BSN degree can apply for tuition assistance up to $43,000/year if enrolled full-time in the UW Oshkosh DNP program.

Pre-Doctoral Award

UW Oshkosh will award several one-year, renewable pre-doctoral fellowships to qualified students who are either:

  1. Enrolled full-time in the UW Oshkosh DNP program with FNP specialization, or
  2. Currently teaching in the College of Nursing and are enrolled full-time in a qualified Ph.D. or DNP program.

In exchange for this support, fellows must teach for three consecutive years in a UW nursing program.

Application Information: Complete the pre-doctoral application, and include a two-page essay addressing career goals and how they intersect with nursing education.

Applications are closed at this time.  For information, contact Judith Westphal

Post-Doctoral Award

UW Oshkosh will award several one-year renewable post-doctoral fellowships to DNP graduates who will focus on translational scholarship in a clinical organization to lead in promoting change. Applicants must be certified FNPs.

In exchange for this support, applicants must teach for three consecutive years in a UW nursing program. A focus on nursing education is part of the commitment and will include completing coursework and/or other activities relevant to the role of nurse educator.

Application Information: Complete the post-doctoral application, and include a two-page essay addressing post-doctoral career goals and how they intersect with nursing education.

Applications are closed at this time.  For information, contact Judith Westphal.

Loan Forgiveness

Student loan forgiveness up to $50,000 will be considered for qualified applicants holding either a PhD in nursing or a DNP degree with FNP specialization in exchange for a three-year teaching commitment as faculty. Applicants cannot be currently in a faculty role at a UW System school.

Application information: Eligible candidate must meet the requirements for tenure track or clinical track faculty at UW Oshkosh. Direct inquiries to Jaya Jambunathan, UW Oshkosh CON Search and Screen Committee Chairperson.
