RN to BSN (BSN at Home) to MSN

The College of Nursing’s RN to BSN (BSN at Home) to MSN option
provides registered nurses with a fast track for entry into the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program while completing their undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree*.

Students complete their bachelor’s degree though online and distance-education courses offered through the BSN at Home Program. To expedite entry into the graduate program, students can take MSN-level courses as electives for BSN@Home. Students then apply to the MSN program.

* Students contemplating RN to BSN to MSN must take a health assessment course that includes a hands-on lab. At this time, BSN@Home does not offer such lab course. Students may sign up for UWOSH N605, health assessment course, offered in the summer, that includes a hands-on lab.

  • General education courses must be taken first in the RN to BSN at Home program in order to meet the time to the Master's degree.

  • The MSN courses that may be taken as RN to BSN (BSN at Home) electives include:

    • 702 Health Care Policy & Politics (2 cr)

    • 703 Health Promotion (2 cr)

    • 707 Epidemiology (2 cr)

    • 708 Ethics (2 cr)

    • 719 Theory (3 cr)

  • A grade of B or better must be attained in graduate courses and health assessment with a lab.

  • During the last 2 BSN semesters, interested students should apply to the graduate program; students are considered ‘special students’ until accepted.

  • Taking a graduate course does not mean acceptance into the graduate program. Students must apply to the graduate program.

  • The 5-year limit to the Master's degree from the time of first graduate course must be maintained.

  • Students must meet prerequisite requirements for the graduate program including a 3 credit introductory statistics course within five years of admission (descriptive and inferential stats), a 3 credit health assessment course with a lab within three years of admission, a 3.0 undergraduate GPA.
