BSN to DNP Admission Requirements

 

Requirements:

  • BSN from a NLNAC or CCNE-accredited program.

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in state of residence and eligible for Wisconsin registered nurse licensure.

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    • GRE required for applicants with GPA of 2.70 - 2.99.

  • Three professional references

    • The application from the Office of Graduate Studies requests you list three references which reflect current knowledge of professional and/or academic skills.  The special forms are sent directly from the Office of Graduate Studies to your listed references.

  • An acceptable undergraduate statistics course completed within the past 5 years.

    • The course must be at least 3 credits and include both descriptive and inferential statistics.

    • The course does not need to be completed prior to requesting admission, however it does need to be completed before the beginning of your first semester.

    • A grade of B or better must be obtained in the statistics course.

  • Registered nurse experience is very helpful, but not required.

  • A personal interview including an oral and written portion.  Eligible applicants will be invited via email to participate in an interview once all materials have been received and reviewed.

 

 

Admission Process:

Step 1:

Complete the online application and pay the $56 application fee at http://apply.wisconsin.edu.  The application is a UW System form and is sent electronically to UW Oshkosh Graduate Studies.

 

Step 2:

Submit official undergraduate and any graduate transcripts to Office of Graduate Studies.  Transcripts must come directly from your University to the Graduate Studies office; transcripts submitted by the applicant are not considered official:

Step 3:

Submit the following items directly to the College of Nursing Graduate Program at  congrad@uwosh.edu

1.  An electronic version of your resume (please include your professional association memberships, certifications, and continuing education activities)

2.   An electronic version of your RN licensure**

3.  A 250-word essay describing what you have done to prepare yourself for graduate study, why you are applying to this particular program, and what are your career goals post-DNP.

* If you are unsure about how to send your electronic copy of your RN license and resume or if you cannot send an electronic version, please contact the UW Oshkosh College of Nursing Graduate Program at:  (920) 424-2106

**Applications can be submitted from those who have yet to graduate from their BSN program and attain RN licensure.  Transcripts showing BSN degree completion and proof of RN licensure must be submitted prior to granting full-standing admission to the program. 

 

 

Step 4:

If your undergraduate GPA is between 2.70 and 2.99, you are required to take the GRE and submit your score to UW Oshkosh.

Step 5:

After admission requirements are met, eligible applicants will be invited via email to participate in an interview consisting of a written and oral portion.
