Admissions Requirements
- Graduation from a NLNAC or CCNE- accredited baccalaureate program.
* Exceptions considered individually, using a professional portfolio evaluation. - Current licensure as a registered nurse.
- Application to the Office of Graduate Studies.
- Three references.
* The application from the Office of Graduate Studies requests you to list three references which reflect current knowledge of professional and/or academic skills. The special forms are sent directly from the Office of Graduate Studies to your listed references. These references are a requirement for admission into the College of Nursing. - An acceptable undergraduate statistics course completed (grade of B or higher) within the past 5 years.
* The course must be at least 3 credits and in the course description it must say that it includes descriptive and inferential statistics. If it does not list those two items in the course description, but they are taught in the class, you must get a letter from the professor or the college stating that the course does teach descriptive and inferential. If you have any questions regarding whether a statistic course does meet the requirements, you may make a copy of the course description and mail it to the College of Nursing, Graduate Program Director. It will be reviewed by the Director, and a response will be sent to you. The course does not need to be completed prior to requesting admission, however, it does need to be completed before the beginning of your first semester. Most Wisconsin Technical College statistic courses are not acceptable. - An acceptable basic health assessment course completed (grade of B or higher) within the past 2 years or validated use of all health assessment skills.The entry level health assessment skill requirement can be met in the following ways:
* Transcript reflecting successful (B grade or higher) completion of a 3 or more credit undergraduate health assessment course within 2 years of admission to the program.
* Enrollment in the summer University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Nursing 605 Health Assessment course. See Graduate bulletin in Timetable and/or Web Page for details. Enrollment in this course is highly recommended. This course does not need to be completed prior to requesting admission; however, it does need to be completed before the beginning of your first semester.
* Written exam (pass rate 85%) and performance exam to validate correct use of health history and physical exam skills. Written and demonstration exam is provided each May with a fee. - A personal interview will be scheduled once your admission file (including reference letters) is complete in the College of Nursing Graduate Program office. Interviews are typically scheduled in January and/or February.
- Nursing practice is highly recommended
Procedure
The admission procedure at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh involves two steps

You should allow 4 to 6 weeks for all of the admission materials to be received by the Graduate Nursing Program. It is recommended that you contact the College of Nursing Graduate Program (920-424-2106) several weeks after submission of your application to check on the status of your admission folder. After your admission folder is complete, you may be invited to campus for an interview with a member of the Graduate Nursing Admission Committee. Students are admitted for full-time or part-time study beginning only in the Fall semester.
Send to the Office of Graduate Studies the following material (including official transcripts):
- Submit an Application for admission to the Office of Graduate Studies. Include $45.00 non-refundable application fee to UW Oshkosh.
- Have official undergraduate/graduate transcripts sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies.
- Complete a supplementary application form from the College of Nursing.

The following DEADLINES are in effect for 2008
- All applicants must first apply to the Office of Graduate Studies at UW Oshkosh and complete the initial admission process. Applicants are encouraged to complete the application process during the Fall Semester one year prior to requested admission.
- Completed applications received by January 15th will receive priority consideration.
- Interviews are scheduled when applications are complete.
- Completed applications received after January 15 will be considered on an individual and space-available basis as determined by the program.
- To allow applicants to attend the mandatory program orientation and plan for the summer Health Assessment course, no applications will be processed after April 1st.
