Overview

The Accelerated Nursing Assistant Program is a 92-hour program that includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences. The program can be completed in three weeks during evenings and weekends. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the Wisconsin State Nursing Assistant Certification exam.
Classroom and lab skill sessions take place in a well-equipped nursing laboratory with state-of-the-art beds and equipment. Clinical sites are accredited by the State of Wisconsin. Program enrollment is limited to 24 individuals.

Now is the perfect time to enter the health care industry. It is Wisconsin’s largest employer, accounting for 10,000 job openings annually. By 2008, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development anticipates that health care will account for 45,000 new jobs in Wisconsin, ranking second in new job creation in the state. The industry also will have to replace another 43,700 health care workers who will retire or leave the industry by 2008. Added pressure on the health care industry’s workforce will come from a rapidly aging population and the very slow growth in the number of available workers.

Is this career for you?

Career definition

Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are members of the health care team and work under the supervision of nurses to provide basic care such as feeding; dressing; bathing; and obtaining temperature, pulse and respiratory measurements. CNAs work in long-term care facilities, hospitals, clinics, and home health agencies.
