Blog Entry for Week Ending April 7

The ninth week of Software Engineering II

This week for discussion, we were to read an article about EHR systems.  It mainly went over the purposes and advantages of these systems.  After that we were supposed to compare a brief demo experience of OpenMRS with how well it satisfied the goals of EHR systems.  While seemingly functional, it provided little in the way of assistive features that the reading said EHR systems should have.

For our Plone group project, we followed our mentor’s suggestion and installed Plone’s truegallery addon and all of the available designs for it.  We went through all of the designs and  found the one closest to the functionality we’re looking to create.  Once we found the closest one, we started to look into how the add on works and is set up.  For next week, we’re going to start work on creating our own design.  In addition, we’ll start working on the theme portion of our project.

My individual project ended this week.  To follow up on my plan from my last blog to redownload the source project and see if the error existed in there, I did so and the issue did exist in an unaltered version of the project.  So I tried to refine all the features I had said I was going to do as much as possible.  In the end, I got some experience with the Processing library for Java and a lesson in verifying the initial functionality of a project.

Our lab this week was aimed to get a better understanding of the Spring MVC framework in reference to OpenMRS.  This week took more digging around to figure out all of the necessary files we needed to change, and there seemed to be some inconsistencies with getting things to work based on where the module we were working on was saved and where the server running the module was saved.  Luckily mine was saved in such a way that I did not run into these troubles.
