Blog Entry for Week Ending February 3

by Broadnax, Levi A. last modified Feb 03, 2017 10:17 PM

Hello, World!

This blog will be my journey towards understanding, and eventually my mastering, and finally my contributions to Plone. Plone is an open source content management system (CMS), which is exactly what you would expect it to be: a simple way to start deploying content to the web without needing to start from scratch.

Well, simple may not have been the right word to use. I had a few hiccups following through the Mastering Plone Development guide. During installation I received an error:

Getting distribution for 'simplejson==3.8.2'.
Error: Download error for https://pypi.python.org/packages/...: [Errno 101] Network is unreachable

If you receive the same error as me, follow along with me using the alternative Plone unified installer option available here.

Installation using the Plone Unified Installer

Feel free to use either wget, or simply navigating to this path and downloading the file through a browser<.p>
$ wget --no-check-certificate https://launchpad.net/plone/5.0/5.0.4/+download/Plone-5.0.4-UnifiedInstaller.tgz

tarIs an archiving tool, you can use any alternative that you may prefer.

$ tar -xf Plone-5.0.4-UnifiedInstaller.tgz

Navigate to the directory you have just extracted:

cd Plone-5.0.4-UnifiedInstaller
Now you can easily run the installer like so:
./install.sh

Note: If for any reason you forget the default admin credentials after installation, you can find them in your buildout.cfg after your first run.

After following the instructions, you and I are prepared to begin chapter 6 the Mastering Plone Development guide which will be the content of my next entry!
