Blog Entry for Week Ending February 10

by Broadnax, Levi A. last modified Feb 10, 2017 11:29 PM

Hello Readers,

Last week I described my experience installing the Plone software on an Ubuntu virtual machine run in VMWare Fusion, but there were more problems with my installation than I thought. These have since been resolved, with the help of some of the Plone developers here on campus that were referred to me by David LaCount, who is PeopleSoft Systems Administrator for UWO. It turns out I was having a problem with my firewall and was unable to install some of the dependencies.

This week I went through and followed chapter 6 of the Plone training. I found that my Python experience was heavily reliant on external libraries, so I brushed up on my Python using Lynda.com’s Up and Running with Python and followed through the entire guide. I made use of my favorite Python IDE, PyCharm, which is available for free for anyone with a student email. Next week I will document and publish my opinions on The Cathedral and the Bazaar by Eric Raymond. I will also document my experience on Chapters 7, 8, 11, 12, and 13 of the Plone training.

Best,

Levi Broadnax
