Blog Entry for Week Ending April 14

by O'Connell, Julianne last modified Apr 14, 2017 12:30 AM

For this week we read about Data Access Objects Pattern. We learned how it's used to help separate low level data from high level business services. We read about Data Access Objects' many benefits which were all in some shape or form separating data and layers. In lab we explored the Data Access Object Pattern ourselves and interacted with an online database through Java code. My group last week told me what we need to move forward. We need to create an add-on and to do that we need to use Mr.Bob, a template that helps create add-ons.

Obstacles this week for me was trying to use Mr.Bob to create an add-on. I couldn’t install Mr.Bob. I tried following the console suggestions as much as possible but ultimately it fails with a permission error. I also tried following one of Plone’s mastering Plone sites and was given help by a classmate. There's more I tried such as editing a buildout file and running commands in various places. Together we couldn’t figure out why my Plone’s files were different. So I plan to reinstall Plone.

What I learned was Mr.Bob is a template that helps create add-ons. I will learn more about what it is when I can run it.

Goals for next week are to reinstall Plone and try to access Mr.Bob to create an add-on. Then be able to modify add-on and see actual progress.
