Blog entry for week February 10

Creating Plone site

Since my last blog entry I learned much more about what plone is. Plone is a open source content management system. It is also very secure, even the FBI uses it, which i found very interesting. The main thing that I accomplished this week was creating my own Plone site. I learned how to add users, folders, events, edit, etc... by following the training in Mastering Plone Management chapter 6. This week I also read through the article "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" and answered the discussion question. I found this reading interesting because I agreed with most of his lessons, and have also had real life experience with some of them, such as his lesson on how you should expect to throw out your first draft of code.

One obstacle that I ran into this week was getting to my webiste outside of the VM. This problem actually had a fairly easy fix for me. I looked in the discussions for plone resources where Cooper posted about what to do if you were having problems getting to your website from your host machine. I followed his instructions and that worked for me.

This next week my goal is to go through more plone training and to learn more background on plone, about add- ons with plone. I also plan on brainstorming some ideas on what my group can do for our project.
