Blog Entry for Week Ending February 10

by Walbrun, Cooper last modified Feb 15, 2017 05:50 PM

Since last Friday, I have gone through all of the exercises in Plone's training guide in Chapter 6, as well as read Chapters 7 and 8. I have also gained some familiarity with the organization of Plone on the local machine. For my own convenience, I wrote a Linux Bash script that starts and stops Plone instances for me (manually typing out the commands was tedious). Lastly, I began toying with some elementary Python to grow more accustomed to its syntax and conventions.

I encountered several issues this week. First and foremost, I found out that the Virtual Machine's firewall had to be reconfigured to allow traffic on Plone's port (8080 in my case) to access Plone from the host machine (outside the VM). The second issue I encountered was a problem related to configuring the mail server in Plone per the tutorial; this problem was actually pointed out by Adam C. in our class, and at the time of posting this blog we have not concluded a solution, but we both will be continuing to troubleshoot until a fix is found.

My goal for next week (Friday the 17th) is to figure out, or at least narrow down, my idea(s) for the project I want to pursue involving Plone/open source. By this coming Monday, I aim to have done the training book's Chapters 12 and 13 so I am fully prepared for Kim's presentation regarding contenttypes.
