Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
As part of UW Oshkosh's continuing commitment to sustainability, UW Oshkosh graduates are presented with multiple opportunities to reduce landfill waste by purchasing environmentally friendly undergraduate attire, reusing attire from friends and family, or donating back attire for future graduates to use in the coming years.
Beginning spring 2010, UW Oshkosh adopted premium quality and environmentally responsible undergraduate attire. This Jostens Elements gown uses:
Fabric fiber made from wood sourced from renewable, managed forests.
Fabric proven to decompose in soil in less a year.
Eco-Zip coil zipper tape and teeth made from 100 percent recycled PET.
Do you know a family member or friend who recently graduated from UW Oshkosh? Have you considered borrowing a cap and gown? At UW Oshkosh we've allowed our graduates to reuse attire since 1996 by following these simple steps:
Borrow attire from a previous UW Oshkosh graduate (master's attire and bachelor's attire differ, please be sure to check the sleeves to be sure you've got the right gown).
Bring the attire with you to Countdown to Commencement for approval.* We'll make sure your gown is the correct style for your degree and that it is the same quality and sheen as the gowns worn by UW Oshkosh graduates.
If you cannot attend Countdown to Commencement, stop in at University Books and More during normal bookstore hours to have your gown approved and to purchase your tassel.
Purchase any needed pieces a la carte through University Books and More:
Caps - $4.50/graduate, $6.50/undergraduate plus tax
Tassels - $3.50 plus tax
Hoods - $25.95 plus tax
- Gown- $28.95/Undergraduate, $24.00/Graduate plus tax
*All attire must be approved before caps, tassels or hoods will be sold.
Instead of throwing away your cap or gown, consider donating your attire for use by future UW Oshkosh graduates. Make a tax deductible donation by dropping off your attire at the ticket window inside Kolf Sports Center after the ceremony. Donations can also be made following the ceremony. Please call (920) 424-0344 to make arrangements.
