Academic Suspension
(L&S Students)
Suspension is the
most extreme probation. The university cuts all academic association
with you for at least one term and a summer session; however, you are
encouraged to get in touch with any of the offices or services at the
University that you need, especially Academic Advising.
How to get into
an Academic Suspension pickle:
- 3 consecutive
semesters below a 2.0 cumulative gpa, or
- 1 semester below
a 1.0 gpa, or
- As a transfer
or reentry student coming in with a poor grade and have 2 consecutive
semesters below a 2.0 cumulative gpa or
- Fail to satisfy
a probation contract or
- Get suspended,
be allowed back and fail to get your grade point to a 2.0
Ways you can alter
your suspension status:
- Interim
class and/or Incompletes
If you get a suspension letter and have an incomplete and/or are scheduled
for an interim class that grade could change your status. So
· complete any incompletes you might have and/or
· do well in the interim class.
- Suspension
Appeal
Suspension can be appealed.
There are three things to remember:
1. the circumstances of the unacceptable achievement must be
outside the student's control and
2. you will need to provide documentation- something in writing
from someone other than you and
3. watch your deadlines. These will be outlined in your suspension
letter.
Note:
An Appeal is no
guarantee you will get back in school, so try to do well in the first
place; your second choice
is the interim/incomplete
option.
Still Suspended
Even if you are still
suspended, you can make progress in your pursue of a college degree. While
you are taking the semester and summer off, you can:
-
Complete
any UW Oshkosh incompletes
-
Take courses
at other colleges or universities or technical colleges (check with
an advisor in Dempsey 130 on what will transfer to UWO)
-
Work on
resolving personal concerns that got in the way of school
-
Enroll
as a special summer student at UW Oshkosh and retake a course you
failed.
Hint:
document, document, document. You will need to document
the changes you have made in your life that will help you succeed at
UWO if the committee allows you back in.
Getting back into
School: Only serious students need (re)apply
