Late Drop

ALWAYS print & save a schedule after any change!!!

GOOD NEWS -
  • Using TitanWeb you are allowed to drop a 14-week class, no questions, anytime up to the end of day, October 19th , that is 4:30 pm
  • Again, using TitanWeb you have until the end of the day, January 18th to drop Interim Classes, without questions or paperwork.

  • Either way, you can go to the TitanWeb and drop the class--unless you are on probation or have another hold of some kind on your account.

Hint: You can not drop your last class. You will have to see an Academic Advisor to do that.

BIG Hint- always print a copy of your schedule after any change (AND SAVE IT!) This could save you all sorts of headaches later.

After those dates, you will need a Good Reason to drop the class. (see next column) See Dates to Remember

GOOD REASONS

  • Medical emergency- yours or your family
  • Family emergency
  • Mental Health emergency or problem
  • Severe personal problem or situation that has resulted in counseling or other professional help before the appeal
  • Other significant disruption of your semester.

The most important thing is to document* your reason

*Documentation consists of information, in writing, from a third party

REASONS THAT WON'T FLY

  • "Thought the drop I did on TitanWeb was successful!" *
  • Not doing well in the class
  • This class will lower your GPA
  • Can't keep up with the workload
  • Don't understand the material
  • Procrastination! If documentations show the disruptive event was more than a few weeks prior to the request it will be denied
  • Don't like the instructor
  • Did not have prerequisites for the class
  • Just changed my major and this class doesn't "count" or fit requirements
  • Normal stresses of family, finances and personal life

*This is especially important during Interim, Late Drop requests "because I thought I dropped it earlier"or "I forgot that I had this class" will NOT be approved

WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO?

IF YOUR REASON FOR WANTING TO DROP THE CLASS FIT THE "GOOD REASONS" LIST

  • get the "Appeal to Late Drop" form from Academic Advising, your Faculty Advisor or the Student Academic Affairs Office,
  • fill it out,
  • have your professor sign it,
  • get your documentation,
  • and bring/send it to the Student Academic Affairs office. (Nursing/Education 101)

You will get a copy of the decision in a couple of days (usually) BUT continue to attend the class until you hear from us.

IF YOUR REASON FOR WANTING TO DROP THE CLASS FIT THE "WON'T FLY" LIST:

  • Talk to the professor
  • Check with the Department to see if they have Tutors - and use them!
  • Talk to the people in the Reading/Study Center (N/E201); They can help you figure out how to study for this class
  • Talk to your Advisor and/or the Advisors in Dempsey 130
  • While in Dempsey 130 talk to the people in Academic Support Services to see if you are eligible for their tutoring
  • And YES ask other students for help, like those majoring in the subject or people in your class who are doing well

MOST IMPORTANT - stick with it-go to class, take the tests -you may surprise yourself
