Curriculum Modification
for L & S Majors. . .
(all others, contact
the coordinator of Advising for their college)
. . . is an Exception
to an Academic Policy. So what does that mean?
It means that your department and/or the Student Academic Affairs Officer
approves an official amendment to the curriculum which you are completing
as shown on your Star Report and/or your transcript.
Some
examples of Curriculum Modifications:
-
In some majors
and minors, you can have certain requirements waived.
-
Sometimes, an
elective in a major or minor can be substituted for a requirement.
-
If after changing
your major, you find one of the required courses is similar to a course
you took for the other major, a substitution may be allowed
-
You might be
allowed to drop the requirement for a minor with certain majors.
-
You may be allowed
to substitute a more advanced class for a class that is listed as
a degree or general education requirement.
-
Sometimes, a
transfer course can be used in a different area than the one into
which it originally transferred, BUT a change of transfer evaluation
often works best in this situation, (for that see the transfer evaluator
in the Admissions Office).
- However, you
may not change the number of credits required for your Major
or Minor.
Getting
a Curriculum Modification
- A request to modify
the curriculum is usually initiated by your faculty advisor or a Letters
and Science advisor in Dempsey. (You can
bring up the idea)
- If the Modification
applies to your Major or Minor, a member of the department (usually
your advisor) needs to sign it. Sometimes the department chair must
also sign it.
- It then goes
to the Student Academic Affairs Officer in Nursing/Education 101.
- Although a modification
of degree requirements is signed only by the SAAO, it may be initiated
by any L&S advisor.
- Approved or denied,
you will get the yellow copy of the Modification in the mail after the
transaction has been processed.
Note: It is wise
to keep this yellow copy with your
important papers just in case something unusual happens.
