Credit Overload

Credit Overload . . .

is an exception to the rule of the maximum number of credits allowed for a term. If you choose to enroll in an overload, you should not expect sympathy from other faculty because of your extra heavy load. A department may recommend an overload, but it has to be approved by the dean's designee for the college in which you have your major, and in the case of COLS, the designee is the SAAO, Karen Bowen.

The maximum allowable credit load is:
Number of weeks = allowable credits

17. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .21
14. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18
8. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9
7 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .9
4 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6
3 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3

If you want to take more credits in a period of time you will need 5 things:

  • An unusual circumstance, and

  • A 3.00 cumulative grade point average (although this can be waived, in certain circumstances) and
  • The approval of an Academic Advisor, from Dempsey 130, and

  • Approval from the Dean of your College, or the dean's designee* and

  • The willingness to pay an additional tuition surcharge when the number of TOTAL Credits goes over 19 (this amount is set by the State).

*Hint: Karen Bowen is the L&S Dean's designee for this procedure.
