This flexible resource for teaching basic music skills to upper elementary, intermediate, or secondary students using handchimes is intended to supplement classroom instruction in rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, form, composition, and performance. It encourages the use of handchimes both as performance instruments and as classroom instructional tools. The method includes reproducible student pages and a teacher's supplement with instructional objectives, an outline of scope and sequence, suggestions for teaching and extension, and melodies and chord progressions for musical exercises. 64 pages, loose-leaf. 1998.

About
the Author
Kenneth L. Liske currently serves as Assistant Professor
and Coordinator of Choral and General Music Education at the University of Wisconsin
Oshkosh. He received his Ph.D. in Music Education and Educational Technology
from Louisiana State University in December, 1999. He holds a B.M. and M.M.
in Music Education from Heidelberg College and Bowling Green State University,
respectively. Dr. Liske's professional interests include classroom music methods,
teacher training, multimedia development, and web-supported instruction in music.
His work has been published and presented nationally. Dr. Liske has previously
taught for thirteen years in the public schools of Ohio and Louisiana, and at
the university level, specializing in middle-level choral and classroom music.
He has been active as a clinician, adjudicator, and event chair. In the middle-level
music classroom, he has integrated handchime instruments as part of a comprehensive
music curriculum. His professional affiliations include MENC: The National Association
for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association, the American
Guild of English Handbell Ringers, College Music Society, Kappa Delta Pi, and
Pi Kappa Lambda.
