Welcome to the College of Letters and Science

With 35 majors spanning the sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences, the College of Letters and Science (COLS) is the largest and most diverse college at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

Through a multifaceted liberal arts education, students are exposed to a broad spectrum of knowledge about human experience and the natural world. Transcending preparation for specific careers, COLS prepares students with communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for success in today's society.

Beyond Classroom Walls is happy to feature the new Spotlight story on the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra's 9/11 Remembrance Concert at the Leach Amphitheater led by Andre Gaskins, who is also the director of Orchestra Activities and Cello at the University. John Koker, dean of COLS, joined the orchestra for Liberty for All, an orchestral piece with narration. An international team of scientists, which included University of Wisconsin Oshkosh anthropology assistant professor Stephanie Spehar and student Eric Fell, found one of the rarest and least known primates in Borneo, Miller’s Grizzled Langur.

WRST submits rare, working ‘50s-era recorder to Library of Congress

In the summer of 2011, WRST staff found a 1958-era tape recorder, formally called a “SoundScriber S124.” Now, the device, which still operates, is headed to a prestigious final resting spot: The Library of Congress.
