Gateway 1: Admission to Teacher Education Program

To make sure you have the correct schedule of courses, please meet with your academic advisor and follow your STAR/Planning Sheet.

Candidates in Gateway 1 have developed transferable knowledge and skills through a liberal arts education and are ready to apply to the COEHS PEP program.

The COEHS offers 3 ways to apply for admission to the PEP program. The first is the Standard Admission, which can occur when the student has completed 28 credits and met all other admission requirements. If all stated admission requirements cannot be met, there are two alternative options for admission, which allow for different requirements for admission.

Another route to applying to the COEHS PEP program is available to incoming freshmen and transfer students. The Direct Admittance Option allows incoming students to be admitted to the College of Education and Human Services, rather than having to wait until they have completed 28 credits. The Education Scholars Program allows incoming freshmen to register with the University Honors Program students during the first day of Advisement and Registration and be directly admitted to the COEHS.

Details on the requirements for each of these options are described below.

The COEHS does have a formal Appeal Policy and Procedure that can be used if a student disagrees with decisions made during the admission process.

Gateway 1 has been completed once all requirements have been met and the candidate has been admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
