  • Math Education
  • Curriculum and Instruction
  • Assessment

I have a passion for math and math teaching and want to create an "I love math" generation. My career began in a high school classroom teaching all different levels of high school math. I have been very fortunate in my career to also have experience as a high school principal and director of instruction. In addition, I have spent time consulting locally and nationally on topics related to curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on math teaching. I pursued my PhD at Cardinal Stritch University in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service.

As a professor at UW Oshkosh, I enjoy working with pre-service and in-service teachers to expand the knowledge base of math teaching and learning. I continue to actively provide professional development workshops to teachers both in math and in other curriculum areas. My extensive experience as a teacher and administrator in K-12 education brings a broad educational perspective to all the courses I teach, with a special emphasis on transforming math education.

As a scholar I am interested in research on assessment of student mathematical knowledge and the role of grades in the assessment process. In the study of assessment, we must consider both student mathematical knowledge of number as well as mathematical thinking and problem solving.

Classes Typically Taught:
