Keynote Speaker: Dr. Timothy Rasinski
Timothy Rasinski is a professor of literacy education at Kent State University. His scholarly interests include reading fluency and word study, reading in the elementary and middle grades, readers who struggle, and parental involvement. His research on reading has been cited by the National Reading Panel and has been published in journals such as Reading Research Quarterly, The Reading Teacher, Reading Psychology and the Journal of Educational Research.
Tim served on the Board of Directors of the International Reading Association. He has also served as co-editor of The Reading Teacher and the Journal of Literacy Research. In 2010 Tim was elected to the International Reading Hall of Fame.
Prior to coming to Kent State, Tim taught literacy education at the University of Georgia. He taught for several years as an elementary and middle school classroom and Title I teacher in Nebraska.
Breakout session topics will include:
- Adolescent literacy
- Literacy instruction for all learners
- What's new in children's literature
- Literacy in the content areas: 6-12
- Literacy coaching basics

One-credit graduate level course
A one-credit graduate level course is being offered in conjunction with the conference. Interested persons must register and pay for the course independently of registering and paying for the conference. The class, Literacy 764 (071D) #90217 Exemplary Practices in Literacy Programs (Discussion), requires attendance at three sessions: Friday, October 10, 5-8 p.m.; at the conference all day Saturday October 11; and Wednesday evening, November 19.
The tuition/cost for the 1-credit class is $212 and will be billed to participants by the University’s Student Accounts department. This $212 tuition fee is in addition to the Conference registration fees.
