Wisconsin License 5017 - Reading Specialist

Students who complete coursework in UWO graduate programs in literacy that lead to eligibility for Wisconsin license 5017 – Reading Specialist are endorsed for licensure by the Department of Literacy & Language when they document the following:

  • Completion of a master’s degree
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin license 1316 – Reading Teacher
  • A passing score (240 or higher) on the Foundations of Reading Test for Wisconsin (FORT)
  • At least three years’ successful regular classroom teaching experience
  • Eligibility for a Wisconsin educator license at the Professional stage

When these licensing requirements are documented, the Department of Literacy & Language then endorses the program completer. Endorsement means that the program completer’s information has been placed into a database which will be accessed when the completer applies for a license through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) ELO licensing system. Endorsement is required before a Wisconsin license is issued by the DPI.
