3. Roles and Responsibilities:

-Develop a 14 week elementary physical education curriculum, design unit plans & daily lesson plans from this curriculum & implement these plans at a local elementary school within the elementary physical education program.  Student assumes the role and responsibility of an actual physical educator under the supervision of a licensed physical educator/mentor teacher.

 

-Complete all the requirements to become a certified Water Safety Instructor

 

-Develop & Implement lessons on specified physical education activities, assuming the role and responsibilities of the physical educator.

 

-Conduct peer evaluations of teaching peers (undergrads) as well as actual teachers in the schools.

 

-Written reflections from observations of physical educator teaching behaviors

 

-Develop a weight training program appropriate for the skill development of a specified physical activity/sport.

 

-Discussions resulting in an understanding of the indications & contraindications of weight training & conditioning as it relates to children
 
 

4. Informal Needs Assessment:

-Assess body composition, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular fitness levels.

 

-Assess skill related levels (i.e. agility, speed, locomotor, manipulative ability, specified skill components, etc.)

-To implement quality physical education instruction & and to offer a safe environment, one must become certified in First Aid and Professional CPR (adult, child, and infant).

 

- To implement quality physical education instruction during climbing wall activities one must obtain belay certified.

 

- To implement quality physical education instruction within an archery unit one must obtain archery certification.

 

-Utilizing the NASPE Standards for Beginning Physical Education Teachers, students assess their areas of need.
