Undergraduate Portfolio

 

Process

Prior to Initial Practicum

Apply and be accepted into the College of Education and Human Services.  Complete an application packet for admission to the Special Education Initial Practicum.
   

Initial Practicum Orientation — First Day of Class

  • Discussion of dispositions and completion of professional dispositions statement
  •  Explanation of portfolio requirements
 

Throughout the Program

  • On-going placement of artifacts into portfolios
  • All artifacts should be assessed according to the Wisconsin Educator Standards and through the use of our new Portfolio Item Scoring Rubric as part of each course
  • On-going documentation of concerns with dispositions of students through the use of the teacher candidate disposition evaluation rubric (from beginning of sophomore practicum through student teaching)

 

Initial Portfolio — Submission of Portfolio at the End of Initial Practicum

  • Includes artifacts from course work, evaluations of teaching and other college requirements
  • Meeting to discuss evaluations and the standard 9 paper (with Initial Practicum supervisors) — during the last three days of the semester
  • The grading of standard 9 and the scoring of the portfolio will be done by the special education faculty

Portfolio scores will be submitted to COEHS after scoring within the first two weeks following the end of the semester, along with remediation plans as needed.

Admission to Student Teaching Portfolio — Submission at the End of Advanced Practicum

  • Includes artifacts from course work, evaluations of teaching and other college requirements
  • Meeting to present portfolio (members of faculty will be assigned portfolios to review equally and randomly) — meetings may be conducted with individuals or small groups at the faculty member’s discretion

Portfolios will be submitted to COEHS after scoring within the first two weeks following the end of the semester

Transition to Teaching Portfolio — Submission at the End of Student Teaching — Completed as part of each student teaching experience

  • Includes artifacts from student teaching and evaluations of teaching (one must be completed for each placement)
  • Meeting to present portfolio at the end of each placement in their final triad meetings (scores from both are averaged by student to determine a final portfolio score)
  • Completion of COEHS exit survey
  • Completion of special education program completers survey

Portfolios are submitted to COEHS after scoring within the first two weeks following the end of the semester.
