Winneconne Visit

Bob Lehman, District Administrator for the Winneconne Community School District, which serves approximately 1,500 students, spend time with us July 19, 2010.
We asked how new special education teachers were performing in their district, but the district had not recently hired special education teachers. However, the Special Education Director stated that he works with student teachers and has noted no problems.
During our visit, we also discussed the following topics:

The active role Jim Smasal, Winneconne High School principal, is playing on the COEHS/K12 Advisory Council.

How the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance works to meet the needs of rural schools.

A preparatory course for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards now offered by COEHS.

The possible development of a program that focuses on principals as instructional leaders.

The Add-on Licensure program and how it may be able to benefit the district’s teachers.

The college’s Hybrid Online Reading Master's program.

That cooperating teachers working with student teachers must complete a course in supervision of student teachers.

Development of a COEHS-based principal licensure program and its potential impact on northeast Wisconsin.
