Oshkosh Visit

Fred Yeo, Don Viegut and Jim Hoffman

We went to visit Don Viegut, Superintendent of the Oshkosh Area School District August 17, 2010. The district serves nearly 10,300 students from early childhood through grade 12 through fifteen elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools, and four charter schools.

While meeting with Don, we talked about:

  • The various ways the college and Oshkosh Area School District can collaborate and help each other.

  • The Add-on Licensure program and how it can benefit district.

  • Development of a principal’s licensure program based at the college.

  • A preparatory course for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards now offered by the college.

  • How cooperating teachers must complete a course in supervision of student teachers. The college offers this course in online, hybrid and face-to-face formats.

  • The Appleton student teaching model between the college and the Appleton Area School District, which was developed this year.

  • Educational Leadership department cohorts that include input from the district in course design.
