Manawa Visit

Fred Yeo, Duane Braun and Jim Hoffman

We traveled to the center of Waupaca County on Sept. 9, 2010 to visit Duane Braun, District Administrator of the School District of Manawa. The district provides serves over 850 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade through three facilities.

Our visit focused on the following issues and programs:

  • The EXCEL Center’s Add-on Licensure program and how it can benefit districts.

  • Development of a principal’s licensure program based at the college and the impact it may have on northeast Wisconsin.

  • A preparatory course for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards now being offered by the college.

  • Educational Leadership cohorts that include input from the district in course design.

  • The Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance and how it works towards meeting the needs of rural schools.

  • How cooperating teachers must complete a course in supervision of student teachers. The college offers this course in online, hybrid and face-to-face formats.

  • The act! licensure program for working professional who desire a new career teaching secondary level math or natural science in Wisconsin.

  • The excellent job of reducing the number of buildings used to accommodate students of the Manawa district.
