Edward J. Dempsey and Sadie A. Dempsey Memorial Teaching Scholarship

Established in 1985 by John E. Dempsey in memory of his parents, former regent Edward J. Dempsey ‘01, for whom Dempsey Hall is named, and Sadie A. Dempsey.
The recipients of this scholarship shall be full-time second semester juniors in the College of Education and Human Services at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a strong desire to continue their education. (Participation in athletics cannot be considered in the selection process, based on NCAA Division III guidelines.)
Applicants must either be from a family of four or more children or have at least one child of their own. These students might not otherwise have the financial means to pursue their education.
The scholarship will be awarded for the fourth and fifth years of a student’s five-year teaching program.
Applications for this scholarship can be obtained from the Curriculum and Instruction Department, College of Education and Human Services.
Final selection will be made by a committee named by the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.
The value and/or number of scholarships will be determined annually by the committee with the UW Oshkosh Foundation and will be based upon income available for this purpose.
One-fourth of the award will be held at the Cashier’s Office each semester of the student’s fourth and fifth years for credit against that semester’s tuition.
