Richard Dale Buckley Scholarship

One scholarship of $150 is available for the 2014-2015 academic year.  

Criteria:

  • Preference will be given to students with senior status or higher, but students with junior status or higher are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Candidates must have a declared major in the College of Education and Human Services in Elementary Education with a minor in Elementary Social Science.

  • Candidates may be full-time or part-time students.

  • Scholarship is a consideration only in that applicants must have achieved an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a four-point scale). All applicants with overall grade point averages equal to or exceeding 3.0 shall be treated equally after satisfying the first two criteria.

  • Other contributions to the University such as (but not exclusively) student committees, debating, music ensembles or government shall be considered in the selection process. (Participation in athletics cannot be considered in the selection process, based on NCAA Division III guidelines.)

  • Financial need shall be considered, but shall not be the dominant criterion in the selection process.

  • Applicants must also submit letters of recommendation reflecting an adult judgment from the following two individuals:

  1. Elementary education social studies methods professor

  2. One other professor knowledgeable about the student’s potential.

 

Selection:

  • Students wishing to apply for this scholarship can obtain applications from the Curriculum and Instruction Department, College of Education and Human Services.

  • Final selection will be made by a committee named by the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.

 

The Award:

  • Half of the award will be held at the Cashier’s Office each semester for payment against that semester’s tuition.

  • The value and/or number of scholarships will be determined annually by the committee with the UW Oshkosh Foundation and will be based upon income available for this purpose.
