Mary Ellen and Norman Frenzel Scholarship

Established in 1997 by family and friends in memory of Mary Ellen Rich Frenzel, and in honor of her husband, Dr. Norman Frenzel, Professor Emeritus of Education and Human Services.


  • Candidates must be admitted to the College of Education and Human Services and/or the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Only students in teacher education will be considered.

  • Candidates may be full-time or part-time students at the University.

  • At the undergraduate level, primary consideration will be given to applicants who are nontraditional students enrolled in elementary or secondary education programs. For secondary applicants, preference will be given to English, art, and music majors.

  • At the graduate level, preference will be given to candidates who are involved in a research project or thesis.

  • Academic performance and financial need will be considered.


  • Application forms must be completed. They are available at the Curriculum and Instruction Department, College of Education and Human Services.

  • The final selection will be made by a committee named by the Dean of COEHS.

The Award:

  • The value and/or number of scholarships will be determined annually by the committee with the UW Oshkosh Foundation and will be based upon income available for this purpose.

  • The cash award will be presented directly to the recipient at the University's Honors and Awards Ceremony each spring.
