Dr. Michael P. Ford Scholarship Fund

Application

Alberta Graham, a friend and former student established this fund in 2002 in honor of Dr. Michael P. Ford. Like Graham, Dr. Ford is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, having earned his MSE in Reading Education in 1983.

A former elementary teacher, Ford has been a faculty member in the Reading Department since 1987, where he worked with Graham. He has been Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Services since 1999. Ford and Graham have worked together in the Fox Valley Reading Council and the Wisconsin State Reading Council. They have shared a lifelong passion in helping young children become readers and writers.

Criteria:

  • Applicant must be a current undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

  • Applicant must be an Elementary Education major and accepted as a candidate into the Professional Education Program in the College of Education and Human Services at the time of application.

  • Applicant must be a single parent with physical custody of one or more minor children.

  • Applicant must show potential for becoming a good educator.

  • Applicant must have financial need, as demonstrated by a personal statement prepared by the applicant.

 

Selection:

  • Applications are available in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services.

  • Selection will be completed by the College of Education and Human Services in consultation with the University's Foundation.

  • In the event future conditions render it impractical or impossible to fulfill the purposes for which this scholarship was established, the President of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation in consultation with the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services, shall award the scholarship to worthy applicants who most closely fit the above criteria.

 

The Award:

  • The scholarship award shall be credited to the recipient’s next tuition obligation incurred at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

  • The value and/or number of scholarship awards will be determined annually by the selection committee with the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation and will be based upon income available for this purpose.

  • Interest earned by the principal will be used to fund the prize.  The Foundation Board of Directors will determine the annual allocation in accordance with established Foundation policies, which are based on past and present market conditions.

  • The principal of the fund will be conserved perpetually.
