Donald Leo Netzer Memorial Scholarship

One $1000 scholarship is available for the 2014-2015 academic year. 

Application 

Criteria:

  • Candidates for this scholarship shall be full-time, part-time, undergraduate or graduate students at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Undergraduate students must have been admitted to Admission II (or equivalent) with a strong desire to continue their education. Full-time undergraduate and graduate students will be given preference.

  • Undergraduate candidates must have a declared major in the College of Education and Human Services in:

    • Secondary Education with a minor in Natural Science, Social Science, Geography, Geology, or Biology. Each applicant must have completed courses in conservation, environmental education and/or ecology.

    • Elementary Education with a minor in Elementary Science or Elementary Social Science. Each applicant must have completed courses in conservation, environmental education and/or ecology.

  • Graduate candidates would have an emphasis in Natural Science, Social Science, Geography, Geology, Biology, Elementary Science or Elementary Social Science. A graduate student must have completed courses in conservation, environmental education and/or ecology, or the equivalent of these courses.

  • Candidates must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a four point scale) or higher.

  • Financial need shall be considered, but not be the dominant criteria in the selection process.

  • Other contributions to the University such as (but not exclusively) student committees, debating, music ensembles or government shall be considered in the selection process. (Participation in athletics cannot be considered in the selection process, based on NCAA Division III guidelines.)

  • Two letters of recommendation reflecting an adult judgment (a methods professor and one other professor knowledgeable about the student's potential.)

 

Selection:

  • Applications for this scholarship are available in the Curriculum and Instruction Department, College of Education and Human Services.

  • Final selection will be made by a committee named by the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.

 

The Award:

  • The value and/or number of scholarships will be determined annually by the committee with the UW Oshkosh Foundation and will be based upon income available for this purpose.

  • Half of the award will be held at the Cashier’s Office each semester for payment against that semester’s tuition.
