Charlotte McEssy Scholarship - Literacy and Language
Established in 1991 by Charlotte H. McEssy, Mrs. McEssy received a bachelor of science degree in upper elementary education and master of science degrees in elementary education and reading from UW Oshkosh. A former reading specialist and elementary principal, Mrs. McEssy recognized the important of education in achieving success.
Applicants must be full or part-time graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in reading in the College of Education & Human Services at UW Oshkosh. They must have attained a grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale. Evidence of involvement in extracurricular or community activities, as well as demonstration of financial need will be taken into consideration but will not be the dominant criteria in the selection process.
Selection will be completed by the College of Education & Human Services’ Reading Department faculty, in consultation with the UW Oshkosh Foundation. Selection will be made early enough in the Spring semester to allow for inclusion on the recipient’s name in the Honors and Awards Ceremony program at semester’s end.
The award will be applied to the recipient’s fall semester tuition.
