This Outstanding Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) Service Award was established in 2006 by Marlene Andrews and her family. Marlene and her husband, Charlie, both graduated from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UWO). Marlene’s father, Robert Merrill, and Marlene's three daughters also attended UWO. Her daughters, Bridget and Katie, graduated from UWO and her daughter, Kelly, attended UWO for two years then transferred to University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Marlene received her BS and MSE degrees from UWO. Following graduation, she was employed at UWO as an instructor in the Special Education Department from 1974-1979. Marlene explored motherhood and various other educational positions before returning to the Special Education Department in 1991. From 1991 until her retirement in 2011 she worked in the Special Education Department training thousands of future educators.
The Andrews Family is very proud of the University and the education they received. They feel strongly that their alma mater provides a quality education for all students. They recognize the importance of education and being involved within the SCEC organization. Bridget Andrews was president of SCEC as she went through the Special Education Program. Her family realized all the extra work that went into being president and serving on the board. The Andrews Family established the service award to encourage future special educators to take on leadership roles.
