Math and Science Education Students Receive Awards Totaling $70,000
Seven students in the Alternative Career’s in Teaching (ACT!) program will be awarded $10,000 each through the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship program. Each of the students is enrolled in an alternative teacher preparation program leading to licensure in secondary mathematics or science education (www.uwfox.uwc.edu/academics/act2teach/). The scholarship stipends can be used for academic and personal expenses during the time a student is enrolled in the ACT! program. Each recipient must hold an advanced degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field and meet additional high standards for academic excellence. The Noyce Teacher Scholarship program is funded by the National Science Foundation.
The ACT! program is a collaborative teacher preparation program between the College of Education and Human Services and UW Fond du Lac, Fox Valley, Manitowoc, Marinette and Sheboygan. Dr. Michael Beeth (UW Oshkosh) and Tammy Ladwig (UW Fox Valley) co-direct the ACT! program. When asked about awarding these scholarships, Dr. Beeth said: “It is very gratifying to be able to support these non-traditional students who are highly qualified to become professional educators.” This Noyce program will award a total of $500,000 to 50 students over a five year period.
