Brief Bio:

Michelle Fleming completed her undergraduate and Masters of Education degrees in Elementary Education at the University of Minnesota. She began her career by working with elementary students in Minneapolis and St. Paul Public Schools (Minnesota). Additionally, she worked in a variety of informal/outdoor education settings with P-12 students. As an elementary teacher, she taught in Green Bay Public Schools (Wisconsin) and Jefferson County Public Schools (Colorado).

Her desire to deepen her understandings and challenge her own ideas about science education led her back to the University of Minnesota. In 2007, Michelle completed her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction (with an emphasis in Science Education). She examined the perceptions of preservice elementary teachers’ views of science and art content and methods for teaching and learning. Her current research interests lie in the areas of multidisciplinary connections, cognition, socio-cultural contexts and teacher education particularly within the realm of STEM education.
