COEHS Scholarships

Apply for ScholarshipsOver 45 scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education and Human Services. Students are encouraged to apply for all opportunities for which they are eligible. Applications are posted as they become available. Scholarships are awarded during the spring semester.

Dollar value and quantity of scholarship may vary . If you are selected for the scholarship you will receive a verification of exact dollar amount.

Undergraduate Scholarships

 COLLEGE

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Beatrice Barlow Lampert and Phillip D. Lampert Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate. Must be accepted into Admission I at the time of application, must demonstrate academic achievement, must show financial need, and preferred applicant will have a major in psychology or geography, however, other applicants will be considered.

 

College of Education and Human Services Alumni Association Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate. Must be at least junior status in the College, have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and demonstrate involvement and leadership in extracurricular activities.

 

Edward J. Dempsey and Sadie A. Dempsey Memorial Teaching Scholarship

Full-time second semester juniors in the College of Education and Human Services with a strong desire to continue their education. Must be from a family of four or more children or be a parent. The scholarship will be awarded for the fourth and fifth years of the students' five-year teaching program.

 

Eugene and Nancy Winkler Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate student. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements. Preference will be given to students who meet both of these criteria: a declared major in the College of Education and Human Services and/or at least one parent who is or was a teacher (K-12). Applicants must be Wisconsin residents and have earned at least 40 credits and no more than 60 credits at the time of application. (This includes all college-level credits: CLEP, CAPP, retro, transfer, etc.) and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and involvement and demonstrated leadership in UW Oshkosh extracurricular activities (excluding athletics).


Gladys W. Ihde Education Scholarship

Female students in the College of Education and Human Services who are either full-time undergraduate at junior or senior status before getting the award, or full- or part-time graduate students. Applicants must have satisfied all Admission I requirements, pursue a career in education, possess outstanding qualities of character and scholastic ability, demonstrate financial need and have at least one semester remaining at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh after the semester in which they apply.

 

Gregory Lynch and Laura (Lynch) Hinze Memorial Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate student in the College of Education and Human Services. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and must show financial need by submitting the Financial Aid Form currently used by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Applicants must also submit a statement documenting their desire to receive a University degree and a description of their efforts to help finance their education. 

 

Jean Erdman and Thomas J. King Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate enrolled in the Professional Education Program or a part- or full-time graduate student interested in the MSE Curriculum and Instruction Program. Applicant must show promise in a teaching career and demonstrate financial need.

 

Lanore A. Netzer Scholarship

Junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student in teacher education. Academic performance and financial need will be considered.

 

Mary Jane McDonald Education Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate accepted into the Professional Education Program. Applicants must have financial need as demonstrated by a personal written statement prepared by the applicant, although financial need is not the sole criterion for acceptance; applicant must submit a written statement explaining why he or she has chosen to become an educator.

 

Mary E. Vogler Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must have graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School, submit an application, and be student teaching or interning in a K-12 setting or be completed with this phase of their education. College graduates that have completed the above still qualify.

 

Schierstedt Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate admitted to and in good standing within the College of Education and Human Services. Must qualify only for federal loans and may not be eligible for need-based grants. The applicant, however, due to circumstances deemed beyond his or her control must have need of support to continue his or her education. Applicants must submit an explanatory statement that documents their desire to receive a University degree in spite of these adverse circumstances.  Applicants should include a description of their own efforts to help finance their education 

 

Stephanie M. Honer and Martin H. Egan Memorial Scholarship

Full-time or part-time student with a major in the College of Education and Human Services. Must have successfully earned a minimum of 40 credits at the time of application and must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Must demonstrate involvement in community service projects, charitable organizations and/or extracurricular activities directly related to serving others (especially children and adolescents). Financial need will be considered, but will not be the dominant criterion in the selection process.

 

Women in Management - Oshkosh Chapter Scholarship

The Women in Management - Oshkosh Chapter scholarship is available for female students aspiring to a professional career. Must be a local college or have local ties to the community. Financial need, academic performance, community and extracurricular involvement will be taken into consideration.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

 

Alice Duren Early Childhood Education Scholarship

Full-time PK-3 students and have been accepted to Admission I. GPA will be considered but will not be the determining factor for the award.

 

 

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION 

GENERAL

 

Bernice and Forrest Derickson Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate student; applicant must be accepted into the Professional Education Program, pursue a degree in Elementary Education, show financial need, and be either over the age of thirty years or a student who has returned to school after an absence of more than 10 years.

 

Clarice Mae Johnson Mandel Education Scholarship

Full-time elementary education students in good academic standing. Applicants must be accepted as candidates into the Professional Education Program in the College of Education and Human Services at the time of application. Applicants must be residents of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana or Iowa.

 

Dr. Michael P. Ford Scholarship

Full-time or part-time undergraduate student; applicant must be current undergraduate student, majoring in elementary education and accepted into the Professional Education Program. He/she must show potential for being a good educator, be a single parent with physical custody of one or more minor children and have financial need.

 

Gladys M. Stern Scholarship in Elementary Education

Full- or part-time undergraduate with junior or senior status at the time of the award. Applicants must be an elementary education major and accepted as a candidate into the Professional Education Program. Preference will be given to graduates of Seymour High School , Seymour , WI ; preference will be given to Wisconsin residents and applicant must have financial need as demonstrated by submission of the Financial Aid form used by the University.

 

Irene Blanchette Sophomore Achievement Award

Full-time sophomore student majoring in elementary education and admitted to Admission I or equivalent. There are no applications for this scholarship. Nominations will be made by the College of Education and Human Services faculty and staff only.

 

Jane Ives Albee Scholarship

Full-time or part-time undergraduate elementary education major admitted to Admission I and prior to Admission II . Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a personal interest in teaching grades 4-6.  Higher GPAs will be treated equally. Financial need will be considered, but will not be the dominant consideration. The award can be renewed for a second year if the student maintains a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

 

Kenneth Allen Mandel Education Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate elementary education major in good academic standing accepted into the Professional Education Program at time of application. Applicants must be residents of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana or Iowa. 

 

Lina Vergara Memorial Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate elementary education major in good academic standing accepted into the Professional Education Program at time of application. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate involvement in extracurricular, service or volunteer programs. Preference will be given to applicants who are known for going above and beyond in welcoming new or shy students and making them feel comfortable in the high school or college environment (as confirmed in a letter of reference submitted by the applicant).

 

Norman Muehrer Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate female student admitted to the elementary education program (K-6) within the College of Education and Human Services. Applicant must be planning or intending to teach K-6, which could include dual licensure in elementary education / special education. Applicant must have at least one semester remaining following the semester in which she applies. GPA of 2.5 or higher.

 

Pattie Ackerman Scholarship

Full-time or part-time undergraduate who has been accepted into the Professional Education Program at the time of application. Applicants must have at least one semester remaining after the semester in which they apply. Applicants must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale. Preference will be given to students who are pursuing a major in upper elementary education.

 

Sally & Bernie Killoran Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate in elementary or secondary education. Admitted to Admission I and have financial need. Preference is given to students from Brown County Wisconsin. The award can automatically be renewed for 2 additional years.

 

Sara M. Hughes Scholarship

Awarded to a declared undergraduate elementary education major who has earned 60 or more credits and who has been accepted for Admissions I. Extracurricular activities (excluding athletic participation) may be considered.

 

Thelma Davis Thompson Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate elementary education major who has a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Applicant must show financial need by submitting the Financial Aid Form currently used by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

 

  

ART/ENGLISH/MUSIC

 

Dorothy "Dottie" M. Adams Music Scholarship

The award is intended to stimulate and promote the musical growth and professional development of students aspiring to become music educators, private piano teachers or performing musicians.

 

Mary Ellen and Norman Frenzel Scholarship

Full-time or part-time graduate or undergraduate. Applicants must be nontraditional students enrolled in undergraduate elementary or secondary education programs especially English, art and music majors, or education graduate students involved in a research project or thesis.

 

 

NATURAL AND/OR SOCIAL SCIENCE

 

Charles J. Lenz Scholarship

Must be officially accepted as teacher education student pursuing coursework prior to student teaching. Primary criterion for selection of this scholarship will be outstanding academic achievement. Special consideration may be given to students with a broad field social science major. Applicants must submit a statement that describes their personal or career goals and explains why they are pursuing a career as a teacher. 

 

Donald Leo Netzer Memorial Scholarship

Full-time or part-time/graduate or undergraduate. Undergraduates must have secondary education majors in natural or social science, geography, geology, or biology; or an elementary education major with a minor in elementary science or elementary social science. Graduate students would have an emphasis in one of these areas as well. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and completed courses in conservation, environmental education and/or ecology. Financial need and extra activities in the community and university will be considered, but will not be the dominant criteria.

 

Dr. Charles Goff Education and Political Science Scholarship

Full- or part-time undergraduate enrolled within the College of Education and Human Services Social Studies Program or within the College of Letters and Science Political Science Program. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must demonstrate, through the application procedure, potential for becoming an effective professional by an understanding of the Education or Political Science Process, and dedication to Leadership in the Education or Political Science Profession. Applicant must have a junior standing and have at least one semester remaining following the semester in which he or she applies.

 

Mary Elizabeth Willey Scholarship

Full-time or part-time undergraduate majoring in secondary science or math education.   

 

Richard Dale Buckley Scholarship

Full-time or part-time undergraduate elementary education major with minor in elementary social science. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Juniors are strongly encouraged to apply.

Stephen Kearney Scholarship

The Stephen Kearny Scholarship is awarded to a Human Services major who is graduating from the University and plans to continue study at the graduate level.  Applicants must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and have been active in Human Services work demonstrated thorugh continued volunteer work in Human Services and membership in NOHSE, the student HSO or the National Honor Society for Human Services.

Rowland Scholarship

The Rowland Scholarship is awarded to a second semester freshman woman majoring in Physical Education Teacher Preparation. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA during their freshman year and each semester thereafter, an interest in and ability to promote physical education through extracurricular activities, the personality to succeed in the profession and must demonstrate financial need.

 

 

SECONDARY EDUCATION 

GENERAL

 

N. Peter and Ruth Nelson Scholarship

Full-time or part-time undergraduate. Must be a secondary education major with junior/senior standing. An overall GPA and Education GPA of 3.5. Recommendation from a Methods instructor and from the academic department.

 

Sally & Bernie Killoran Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate in elementary or secondary education. Admitted to Admission I and have financial need. Preference is given to students from Brown County Wisconsin. The award can automatically be renewed for two additional years.

Mary Ellen and Norman Frenzel Scholarship

Full-time or part-time graduate or undergraduate. Applicants must be nontraditional students enrolled in undergraduate elementary or secondary education programs especially English, art and music majors, or education graduate students involved in a research project or thesis.

 

Stanley Larson Scholarship

Part-or full-time undergraduate accepted as candidates into the Professional Education Program in COEHS. Applicants must be English majors with plans to teach English at the secondary level. All applicants must have completed Admission II requirements and have earned at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Applicants must show financial need by submitting the financial aid form currently used by the University.

 

Suzanne Harriet Pearson Landes and James Hazelton Pearson Scholarship

Full-time or part-time graduate or undergraduate. Undergraduates must be English majors and graduates must have earned a bachelor's degree in English either as an education student or as regular English major and undergraduate or graduate must have plans to teach at the secondary level. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required.

The Andrews Family Outstanding SCEC Service Award

Awarded to a Special Education major who is an active participant in SCEC and has demonstrated outstanding service to both SCEC and the Special Education Department.  Additional experience working with special needs children will be considered.

 

Betty Griesbach Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate special education major at junior or senior status before receiving award or part- or full-time graduate students. Preference will be given to women over 30 years old with family responsibilities. Financial need and intentions to pursue a career as a special education classroom teacher as opposed to a school administrator are given consideration.

Full- or part-time special education major enrolled at the UW Oshkosh for at least six credits at time of application and time of award disbursement who has met Admission I requirements. Applicant must be a single parent with physical placement of their child/children at least 40 percent of the time. Financial need is a consideration and is determined by the student completing the form currently used by the University to determine allocation of federal and state grants and loans.

Dr. Mary Drecktrah Special Education Scholarship

Undergraduate special education majors; 60 or more credits; 3.5 GPA or better; has at least one semester remaining before graduation. Must be an active member of the Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC).

 

Leonardi Scholarship

UW Oshkosh special education student with at least 60 credits applicable to the major as of the fall semester following the application. Strong academic performance and experiences in working with disabilities are primary. Financial need is not a consideration.

AAUW Scholarship


The American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers a scholarship to a woman enrolled full-time in one of the graduate programs at UW Oshkosh. Since its inception in 1966, students from all four of the University's colleges have been recognized.

 

Elinor Metzen Mathe Scholarship

Full- or part-time  graduate student who has served as a middle school or junior high school teacher for at least two years. Must have applied and been accepted into the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in a master's program offered by the College of Education and Human Services. Preference will be given to applicants who have left the teaching profession and have decided to return after a lapse.

Charlotte H. McEssy Scholarship - Educational Leadership

Established in 1992, the Charlotte H. McEssy Scholarship - Educational Leadership recognizes students pursuing an MS in Educational Leadership from UW Oshkosh. Recipients are full-time or part-time graduate students, with a GPA of 3.0 and involvement in extracurricular or community activities.

 

 

LIBRARY/MEDIA

 

WEMTA Library Media Scholarships

The Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA) offers several scholarships for library media students.

 

 

NATURAL AND/OR SOCIAL SCIENCE

 

Donald Leo Netzer Memorial Scholarship

Full-time or part-time/graduate or undergraduate. Undergraduates must have secondary education majors in natural or social science, geography, geology, or biology; or an elementary education major with a minor in elementary science or elementary social science. Robert (Pete) Havens Scholarship

Awarded to a full- or part-time graduate student majoring in counseling in the Department of Professional Counseling. Must have cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Must have at least one semester following the semester in which he/she applies.  2013 Amount: $500

 

Kenneth W. Morrison Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a full- or part-time graduate student majoring in counseling in the Department of Professional Counseling. Must have cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Must have at least one semester following the semester in which he/she applies and demonstrate potential for becomig an effective counseling professional. 2013 Amount: $350

 

 

READING EDUCATION

 

Jean I. Caudle Graduate Reading Scholarship

Part or full-time graduate students pursuing a master's degree in reading. Must have a GPA of 3.0, show involvement in extracurricular or community activities and demonstrate financial need.

 

Charlotte H. McEssy Scholarship - Reading Education

Part or full-time graduate students pursuing a master's in reading education. Must have a GPA of 3.0, show involvement in extracurricular or community activities and demonstrate financial need.
