CFP® Certification Course Descriptions

WFSI 615  Financial Planning, Risk and Insurance  (14 weeks)

Financial Planning, Risk and Insurance takes a comprehensive approach to understanding financial planning, risk management and insurance in its various forms. The primary goal of the course is to introduce the student to the basic tools and techniques used in the financial planning process, risk assessment and management, and the insurance tools used in managing risk. In addition, the course will help the student gain a full understanding of the knowledge required to meet the CFP® Certification Examination Learning Topics 1 through 26. 

 

WFSI 616  Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning  (14 weeks) 

Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning covers employee benefits, personal plans, retirement plans, and how financial planners help individuals coordinate the types of plans they are offered through their employer with the various individual plans available. In addition, this course will help the student gain a full understanding of the knowledge required to meet the CFP® Certification Examination Learning Topics 27 through 33 and 59 through 67. 


WFSI 617 Investment Planning  (14 weeks)

Investment Planning provides the student with a basis for making investment decisions and an understanding of the various types of securities traded in financial markets. The course will also discuss investment theory and practice, portfolio construction and management, and investment strategies and tactics. In addition, the course will help the student gain a full understanding of the knowledge required to meet the CFP® Certification Examination Learning Topics 34 through 43. 

 

WFSI 618 Income Tax Planning:  (14 weeks)

This course is a comprehensive introduction to the basic concepts of federal income taxation with emphasis on individuals. In addition, the course will help the student gain a full understanding of the knowledge required to meet the CFP® Certification Examination Learning Topics 44 through 58.

 

WFSI 619  Estate Planning: (14 weeks)

The Estate Planning course covers the basic concepts of estate planning for individuals. An overview of the sources and basic framework of federal and state estate law is provided followed by concepts of ownership and titling, property transfer, gifting, powers of appointment, incapacity planning, trusts, and estate taxation. In addition, this course will help the student gain a full understanding of the knowledge required to meet the CFP® Certification Examination Learning Topics 68 through 89.

 

WFSI 620  Case Studies in Financial Planning:  (14 weeks)

This course is a practical review of all areas of financial planning using a case study approach.
Students will participate in the analysis of case scenarios and will apply their knowledge from the
previous course work they have completed in this Financial Planning certificate program. This course is considered a capstone course to the entire program. After analyzing cases in all the major areas of financial planning, the students will complete a comprehensive three hour exam designed to give them a sense of the exam pressures they will encounter in the CFP® Certification Examination. Finally, students will critique their test-taking style as the final project in the course.

 

WFSI 630  Exam Review Course (online)

The UW Oshkosh College of Business is pleased to offer our students the Dalton Review® eReview for the CFP® Certification Examination.
