Marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational objectives. Marketing combines advertising, business logistics, research, product management and selling in targeted efforts to satisfy the consumer or the organizational buyer with products and services in an ongoing relationship.

Career Opportunities

  • Develop advertising objectives, set budgets, select media, create promotional materials and coordinate activities with the firm's advertising agency
  • Business logistics and physical distribution: traffic and transportation, material handling, packaging, warehousing, order processing and inventory management
  • Marketing research: explore product ideas, services, advertising and packaging concepts, marketability of new products and services, pricing and distribution decisions
  • Product manager (brand manager): direct marketing activities for a company
  • Personal selling: consulting on advertising, setting up in-store displays, training retail sales personnel and advising distributors
  • Organizational purchasing: buying for business and non-profit organizations
