The MBA China/Korea trip scheduled for May 18-27, 2012 is designed to showcase international supply chain operations in three countries (US/China/Korea). The student will learn about the intricacies and issues of international relations and business operations in a real time case study. This experience is not intended to be a traditional study tour, but rather a working case experience in which you apply what you have learned. Our host company Mercury Marine will expose the student to their supply chain in three countries, including a detailed look at the impact of culture, business and government issues. We will do plant tours at Mercury operations in the US and China, and visit with key suppliers in the US, China and Korea. We will also meet with graduate students at a major Korean university to compare programs.
This course will consist of three sections: pre-trip meetings, travel abroad and a post trip presentation. Commitment to this course requires participation in all three phases:
Pre-Trip: There will be two pre-trip class sessions. A reading packet will also be required to acquaint the student with the issues and the companies involved on the trip. The purpose of these meetings is to acquaint the student with fellow team members, learn about the countries, and become acquainted with Mercury Marine’s US based operations, and suppliers. Students will be assigned to a consulting team and tasked with a specific assignment to complete by the end of the tour. The meetings are tentatively scheduled for 9-3 on April 21 and May 5th, 2012.
Travel: Students will be required to attend all meetings, tours and events while in China and Korea, May 18-27. There will be free time for you to explore Suzhou, Shanghai and Seoul.
Post Trip: A required post trip meeting will consist of a formal presentation of your group’s findings to Mercury Marine management. This presentation is tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 8th 3-6PM. Each group will also submit a written detailed summary of their findings.
In summary, we are excited to provide this opportunity for your professional development and hope that you will join us this spring.
